Spybot: Search and Destroy

Spyware-software that sends info about your computer to its creator

Adware-software that looks at what web pages you visit and show ads based on you preferences

(Web) Cookie-a tiny file placed by a web site on your computer that stores info. Web cookies can expire (they delete themselves after an amount of time)

Tracking Cookies-cookies that tell a web site or computer what web sites you have visited

Note: all these things are placed on your computer and send info without you noticing.

Spybot: Search and Destroy is a free program that lets you find and destroy spyware, adware, tracking cookies, and other bad stuff for your computer. Unlike other programs that display ads or make you pay money to get them, Spybot just gets donations. It has plenty of options and is easy to use, but the scan is slow (about 30 minutes).
