Internet mix-ups

For more mix-ups, visit the Misconceptions section of my blog.

MB vs. GB On the internet, there can be confusion between the two sizes. A MB, or megabyte, is the size of a large document. A GB, or gigabyte, is two low resolution movies, or 1/2 of a flashdrive. 1024 or 1000 MBs go into a GB.

Java vs. Javascript These two coding bases are very different. Java is a complete programming language: even a Mars rover used it! Javascript, however, is used on the internet for simple animations, form sending, and other basic elements on websites.

LED vs. LCD These simmilar acronyms both have technological uses. An LED, or Light Emitting Diode, uses a crystal to make energy-efficent light with little heat. An LCD is a slim Liquid Crystal Display. Translation: really thin TVs and computer monitors. Modern TVs, laptop displays, and new computer monitors use LCD technology. A new type of LED, OLED (Organic LED), will, howver, be used in TVs for better contrast and lighting.
